BICYCLE OUTPOST - DESIGN-BUILD RESEARCH - 2013-2014 - Project Lead and Coordinator: Nick Brinen
Green Fund Research Grant Award
Architizer A+ Award Finalist - Student Design Build Project
The Bicycle Outpost Project was a recipient of the Green Fund Seed Grant which supports sustainable projects for Greenwich Village community in New York City. In 2008 the Department of Transportation launched an initiative to expand conditions for bicycling with new bike lanes and planning. This more infrastructure was needed when bike shops are closed. The Bicycle Outpost is a prototype that attempts to maximize the amenities cyclists may need to fix a flat tire, tighten brakes, and any other common issues with bicycles, so one can make it to their destination safely. We made reuse of donated plywood and the grant funds to provide the following:
-Secured bicycle tools
-Air pump for both valve types
-Analog vending machine with patch-kits and lights
-Wheels make it mobile; so can be tested in various locations. -Photo luminescent paint, which takes on an 8-hour glow after sundown.
