JMU - ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO I - Fall 2023 - Coordinator and Co-professor: Nick Brinen Co-professor: Jeannette Andamasaris
This studio will begin with explorations into shaping various conditions to hold space and phenomena. It is crucial to note that this will be an iterative process of making, re-making, observing, and altering. The process will begin with dissecting and drawing the aspects and details of “something decomposable”. Then create an enveloping vessel for the decomposable object. This envelope will be further dissected, studied, and framed with tectonic processes.
AVIARY & TERRARIUM: This initial exchange between dissection and study of object and vessel will create a catalog for each student to draw from for the design and spatial exploration of an aviary for various types of birds. In this phase, issues of site, exposure, context, and narrative will be imperative to utilizing the Spatial Catalog and creating effective alchemy between site, animal, and space.
