FOUNDATION STUDIO 1 | ARCH 1030 | SPRING 2020 - UNDERGRADUATE SEMINAR - UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA - Instructor (Lecturer): Nick Brinen
This course was taught half in person and the second half had to shift online due to the 2020 pandemic protocols. The digital drawings are a result of that shift to online based learning. In any case, the overall course addresses comprehensive design principles, skill sets, and critical thinking. The material covered throughout the semester is presented through a series of lectures, design prompts, exercises, workshops, reviews and exhibitions. Throughout the semester, students will be involved in the thoughtful application of fundamental design principles, foundational techniques of representation and fabrication, and comprehensive critical design strategies.
A central goal of the course is to sustain an open conceptual framework, which facilitates the development of a substantive body of visual literacy and design principles and practices to support judicious and insightful design processes and proposals. It is our collective responsibility to establish and maintain an environment rich in discussion, production, and intellectual exchange.
