BOAT BUILDING ACADEMY AND MARATIME MUSEUM | ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO IV
SPRING 2013 - 2ND YEAR UNDERGRADUATE STUDIO - PARSONS SCHOOL OF DESIGN
PROFESSOR: Nick Brinen
In this studio, students will engage a process in which programming, site analysis, context, building methods, and materiality serve as a catalyst for design.
The students will develop a proposal for a “regenerative intervention” within a prescribed square footage of the waterfront site currently being renovated at the town of Dobbs Ferry. This site rests along the eastern bank of the Hudson River with a partially existing foundation slab and natural shoreline. The project program will allow the student to fold in aspects of their analysis to develop the given program of a Traditional Boat Building Academy and Maritime Museum. The users/visitors for the project will range widely from daily museum visitors to temporary residents learning/performing the crafts of traditional boat building, sailing, and navigation.
